  • How much does it cost? Registration is $105. NOW $84!
  • When is the next class? Saturday Jan 29th, 2022 from 9 AM to 3 PM.
  • Do I have to own/bring my own handgun? It is preferred, but not required. We have a limited number of handguns available for rental/use for a fee of $25 for the qualification course. First come, first served.
  • How many rounds of ammunition are required for the proficiency evaluation? The proficiency evaluation/qualification course requires 50 rounds of ammunition. **Reloads are prohibited** You must pass the qualification course of fire in three attempts. Bring extra ammo if you suspect you may need more than one qualification attempt.
  • What if I can't find ammunition for the proficiency evaluation? We have 9mm and 40 caliber pistol ammunition in stock for $35/box of 50 rounds.
  • What is Camp Barkeley? Camp Barkeley has a rich history... At it's peak, it was the largest (approx. 70,000 booming acres) and most important U.S. Army Infantry training facility in the entire United States in the early 1940s. Under General Patton, US Troops literally left Camp Barkeley and went to liberate concentration camps in Germany in WWII. The current venue is just over 1000 acres of the original Camp Barkeley with some of the original buildings and artifacts still intact. The view of Abilene to the north from the top of the hill is incredible.
  • How do I find Camp Barkeley? Camp Barkeley is just a short drive south of Abilene between Buffalo Gap and View. The address, a map, and helpful instructions will be provided in your registration confirmation emails. Finding the venue/getting there is probably the most difficult part of the class! :D But totally doable. ; )
  • Will there be a lunch break? There will not be a lunch break, per se, due to the distance away from town and time considerations. Plan to bring drinks and snacks to keep you satiated during the day.
  • What should I wear? Range appropriate clothing (long pants and no open-toe footwear) is required, plus you will need eye and ear protection. Weather considerations should also be made for the outdoor proficiency portion. There is a small covering at the handgun range, but students will move out from under the cover to complete the course of fire, rain or shine, heat or cold. All of the classroom portion will be indoors in a climate controlled environment. Wise Covid precautions will be made, but masks will be at the students' discretion.
  • How many chances do I have to pass the proficiency evaluation? Each student must pass the 50 round proficiency evaluation in three attempts, or another qualification attempt will have to be scheduled on a different day at the student's expense. NO ONE has not passed in our classes, and we even have a very comfortable .22 caliber pistol for second or third attempts if that helps. ($25 handgun rental fee applies)
  • Do I need a holster for this class? Holsters will not be used/allowed during the proficiency evaluation/qualification course.
  • How is THIS class the "BEST" LTC class in the Big Country?! Coach Tim Pipes possesses skills, experience, and training that no one else in the Big Country can match or provide. In WFA's LTC Course, you will learn the newest basic TX LTC curriculum from someone who has dealt professionally with Texas laws AND violence for 28+ years, including 11 years assigned to SWAT and the SWAT Competition Team, plus 20 years of combatives instructing experience and 17 years of firearms instructing experience, and now 6+ years specifically working in lead and support detective roles in multiple violent crimes against persons and homicide investigations. Coach Tim is the only local LTC instructor with certifications from all of these organizations combined: The ONLY NRA, DPS, TCOLE, Gracie GST, and PDR certified instructor in the Big Country.
Additionally, we humbly take great pride in our remarkable venue. It is the most important and influential historical training facility in the Big Country, training up warriors of the past, and now the present and future - Camp BarkeleyTactical Training Center.

Why would I need a TX LTC if Constitutional Carry is now legal in TX?!

GREAT QUESTION! There are numerous benefits to having a TX LTC over Constitutional Carry...

  • TX LTC allows certified license holders to bypass background checks when purchasing firearms.
  • Reciprocity. TX LTC is recognized in 37 other states.
  • Without a TX LTC, one cannot go within 1000 feet of a public, parochial, or private elementary, middle, or high school. But with a TX LTC, one can carry all the way up to the school buildings. And TEACHERS? School districts cannot prohibit employees with their TX LTC from keeping a firearm and ammo concealed in your locked vehicle while it’s parked in a school parking lot/at work!
  • Protections for carrying past 30.06/30.07 signs.
It is a defense to prosecution that a TX LTC holder promptly departed after receiving notice, even with 30.06/30.07 signs posted. There is NO defense to prosecution under permitless constitutional carry when carrying past no gun signs.
  • “Oopsies” at the airports!
It is a defense to prosecution that upon possessing a handgun at the screening checkpoint for the secured area of an airport, one has their valid TX LTC and immediately exits the secure area when notified to do so.
  • Domestic violence victims under 21 years old may be eligible for a TX LTC, as well as an expedited application process as quick as 10 days!
  • Active-duty military under 21 years of age may be eligible for a TX LTC.🇺🇸
  • Concealed carry-on college campuses as well as locations of college sporting events. Under permitless carry, handguns cannot be carried into any college campus buildings and cannot be carried on the property at all if a sporting event is taking place.
  • More notice at some prohibited locations.
    - Hospitals, nursing homes, amusement parks and collegiate sporting events must provide notice under 30.06/30.07 for TX LTC holders. It is not a prohibited location for TX LTC holders if the signs are not posted.
    - 51% sign - the statutory prohibition against carrying a handgun into a bar (or other 51% location) does not apply to TX LTC holders if the location does not have the 51% sign posted in accordance with the law.
(51% locations remain a felony regardless of whether a sign is posted or not under permit less carry.)
    - Open meetings of a governmental entity are not prohibited locations for TX LTC holders
  • Private property owners may choose to exclude carrying handguns for permitless carry, but not for TX TLC holders.
(It will be much easier to post "no gun" signs under permitless carry versus the stricter requirements under 30.06/30.07)
  • Law Enforcement interactions. Law enforcement can easily determine that a handgun is legally being carried with a TX LTC.
It should facilitate much smoother and potentially quicker interactions.

What Students Have to Say

  • Chris Garner -  "Coach Tim is second to none when it comes to firearms training; being an Abilene Police SWAT officer, Coach Tim brings real world scenarios to push the thinking of the citizen outside their comfort zone and be prepared mentally, physically and emotionally in case you ever have to pull your weapon. There’s no one else I trust more, no one else I trust my training to than Coach Tim. Book asap, you won’t regret it. You’ll feel the weight of the burden but be confident you can act if the time ever comes.
